I spent off work time in Ciudadela than any other place on the island. Ciudadela had a charm of its own that the other towns didn't have. Mahon was nice, but it had become a bit "urbanized" and it wasn't the same. I did spend some time in S'algar and Cova d'en Xoroi (aka "the Caves) but Ciudadela was it for me.

I believe that this is actaully Menorca, Spain. (And that I took the picture!) Fine looking gear, though.

 Definitely Menorca.

 Menorca

Sure looks a million miles away from Menorca, eh?

The Microwave and Tropo was done while I was stationed at Menorca.

Pete's, aka "Es Forat", was a great place. Pete was a very nice man and his wife was friendly and always gave us GIs a little more than the rest of the customers. I knocked down quite a few brews there. Later Pete had pizza there and it was delicious.

When I arrived at Mt. Hortiatis in February '82, all the sites in Greece had cut over to solid state on the tropo RX and the microwave. I never looked at Menorca to see if the solid state refit had been done.

Hey Steve Conn! Isn't that your car? I had a Kawaski KZ750 motocycle that I brought with me. The gas tank was so small that I couldn't fit all of the gas that the ration cards called for. I got the difference back in cash, which was more than I paid for the coupon. I made money riding my bike! What a wonderful place! I put 4,000 miles on my bike while at Menorca, AND I had a car, too!

I remember Son Bou the first time I went there.... some "more mature" British tourists were naked and the younger women were not!!! I was 20 years old and when I saw a naked 60+ year old British woman I darned near went blind out of fright!!!!

I have been to Cala Galdana at least 15 times. Great place. We were renting a paddle boat and would drop over and go snorkelling. Fun, fun!!!

Hey, that's me in the red and white shirt! Too bad we lost the game. But considering the trophy was a TOILET SEAT, maybe they can just keep it.

Carl Tillberry, who married one of the finest Menorquin women on the island, took the pic for this. I don't remember who took it to the shop to have the stencil made, but it was done in 1979-1980 timeframe. I still have my Menorca T-shirt with Bummer the Wonder Dog on it. It's a bit worn, but it's Bummer!!!

Thanks for posting here, Steve. I wouldn't have been able to get in touch with you if you hadn't. It's been too long. I'll post more pictures.
